Our Mission
We believe that the purpose of education is to prepare children for the future. As a research organization, we contribute to the improvement of education by deepening our understanding of learning processes. We investigate what supports and what hinders learning, helping children better prepare for the world ahead.
Research Team
We are Scio Research – a team of researchers and innovators dedicated to the future of education. We focus on topics such as curiosity, artificial intelligence in teaching, and transformations in the school environment. Our work connects academic expertise with practical experience – from curricular reforms and data analysis to the development of new educational approaches.
Our members bring experience from international organisations such as UNICEF and the Council of Europe, from university research, and from leading educational projects. They publish in prestigious academic journals, contribute to innovations in assessment and creativity development in children, and monitor how artificial intelligence is changing the way we learn. Together, we seek ways to support education that prepares children for the world of tomorrow.
Scio Research Leadership
Ethical principles are fundamental to our research.
We adhere to a Code of Ethics designed to define the ethical standards of Scio Research in research, work with schools and children, and work with employees. In developing these principles, we drew upon the European Charter for Researchers, the Ethics Framework for Research, and other documents that outline ethical principles for research in schools and research with children. Compliance is overseen by the Scio Research Ethics Committee, composed of independent members from the fields of education and academia.
Ethics Committee
Each of our research projects, including specific activities, is approved the Ethics Committee composed of parents, school staff, and independent experts. The Ethics Committee may, among other things, decide that additional consent is required for a particular activity.
Informed Consent
We ensure that participants, or their legal guardians, have access to all necessary information and can make an informed decision about whether their children will take part in our research projects. Children always participate in research-related activities voluntarily. They may therefore choose not to participate even with their legal guardians’ consent. Where it may be beneficial to them, we inform them about the research findings.
Privacy Protection
We comply with GDPR and protect the privacy of our research participants. We ensure that personal data about participants is not disclosed to anyone except a limited number of authorised researchers.
Safety
It is important to us that research activities are safe, and as pleasant and beneficial as possible for all involved. In research conducted in schools, we ensure that research activities complement regular teaching and do not pose additional risks or burden on pupils or the school itself.
Scientific Integrity
We handle findings from our research openly, impartially, and in accordance with the principles of scientific integrity. Truthfulness and objectivity are always paramount. The commercial interests of Scio do not influence our research activities.
Equality and Diversity
We always treat researchers, colleagues, children, and students fairly and with respect. We do not tolerate any forms of discrimination based on ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, or identity.
Open Information
We approach publishing responsibly. We do not claim credit for others’ work and avoid selective reporting of information in publications to support our conclusions.
Gender Equality Plan
The goal of the Ethics Committee is to uphold high standards of ethical responsibility and transparency throughout all stages of research.
